Frequently asked questions
How much does a borehole cost in Portugal?
Drilling is priced per metre — typically between €35 and €80 per metre depending on the geology — plus casing, pump and licensing. A complete domestic borehole usually lands between €3,000 and €10,000. Request a free quote for a concrete figure for your land.
Do I need a licence to drill a borehole in Portugal?
Yes. Groundwater abstraction requires a water-use title issued by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) through the regional water administration (ARH). We handle the paperwork for you.
How long does drilling take?
The drilling itself typically takes 1–3 days depending on depth and rock type. Licensing beforehand can take a few weeks.
Is borehole water drinkable?
Often yes, but it must be tested. Water quality depends on the aquifer. For irrigation and pools no treatment is usually needed; for drinking water a lab analysis and possibly filtration are recommended.
